Kolkata used to be the capital of India during British rule and it was the second most important city for the British after London, but in 1911 the capital of India was shifted to Delhi. My journey to Kolkata began after a visit to Mumbai.   • Victoria Memorial – This grand monument was built in memory of Queen Victoria and is one of the most beautiful palaces in the country. You will be surprised to see its decency. The most popular place in Kolkata is the Victoria Memorial, the look from the outside is huge. Like the Taj Mahal. The Victoria Memorial is dedicated to Queen Victoria of the UK. And its construction started in 1906 and was completed in 1921. At that time it took 1 crore 5 lakh rupees to make it. There is also a museum inside it and it looks even more active at night in the light.

  • Dakshineswar Temple – Dakshineswar Temple of Kolkata is an important temple dedicated to Kali Mata. Dakshineswar Temple has a great identity of religious purity. This temple is built on 25 acres. This temple was built by Rani Rashmoni in 1855 AD. It is located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. This temple is decorated in a grand way during Navratri. To come here, you can get down at Dumdum railway station, after that you can come here by bus. This is a very popular religious place in Kolkata and India.

You will have to deposit your phone wallet and all this at the counter before going inside the temple. Dakshineswar Kali Maa Temple is a historic temple built on the banks of the Hooghly River. There is also a river ghat here and you can sit here and see the view of the Hooghly river.

If you want to go to Belur Math, you can also go from Dakshineswar Temple. There is a way from the left side of the temple, and from there you can go directly to Belur Math by boat streamer. It takes total of 20 minutes to travel from Dakshineswar Temple to Belur Math and a streamer ticket costs Rs.11.

  • Belur Math – Belur Math, built on the banks of the Hooghly river, is built on 40 acres and is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math Mission. People from all over the country and abroad come here for meditation. Here you will find peace and relaxation. This Math was established by Swami Vivekananda. Every day there is an arrangement for eating here, which is fed by sitting and it remains free.
  • Fort Williams – Fort William of Kolkata is a fort that was constructed in 1696. At present, this fort is the property of the Indian Army, where 10,000 soldiers can be deployed if needed.
  • Alipore Zoo – Ticket is ₹10 for children and ₹30 for adults. Kolkata’s zoo is very old and it also has Royal Bengal Tiger, Rhino, Crocodile, and Deer. This plus is an ideal place for families or children to visit, there is no internal space to visit the zoo.
  • Science City – The Science City of Kolkata was inaugurated in 1997. This place is no less than a paradise for those interested in science. It is the largest science center in the country and is very popular with tourists. Science City was inaugurated on 1 July 1997. It is maintained by the NCSM Ministry of Culture Government of India. Science City is one of the most famous places in Kolkata. Science City is a huge place, Apart from a lot of scientific equipment, many modules will also be seen here. And apart from entertainment here, you will also get a lot of knowledge. Just like the National Science Center in Delhi, so is the Science City here.
  • Indian Museum – The Indian Museum of Kolkata is one of the largest museums in the country. Here the culture and tradition of the country can be known more closely. There is a very good collection of jewellery, textiles, mineral sculptures and paintings. The Indian Museum is also known as the Imperial Museum at Kolkata. A total of 102646 objects of different types are stored in it.
  • Nicco Park – Kolkata’s nicco park, known as Disneyland of West Bengal, is a good option for entertainment in Kolkata. There are many rides available for children and adults. You can have a lot of fun here with your family.
  • Howrah Bridge – Howrah Bridge is a special identity of Kolkata and lakhs of vehicles pass through it every day. Howrah Bridge is also known as Rabindra Setu Bridge and it is currently the longest bridge of its kind. The total length of this bridge is 705 meters and 71 feet width. About 300,000 vehicles and 4.5 lakh pedestrians pass through this bridge daily.
  • Paul’s Cathedral – Known for its Gothic architecture, St. Paul’s Church is one of the country’s first and most important churches. It is bathed in lights on the occasion of Christmas. Or the first church built by the British in other countries and its construction work was completed in 1847. Coming to a church on Christmas day and seeing Christmas has a different significance.
  • Eco Tourism Park – Kolkata’s Eco Tourism Park allows you to connect with nature and is spread over a vast area of 475 acres. Boating, cycling, etc. facilities are also available here, which you can enjoy with your family or friends. If you are fond of cycling and boating then you must come here. You will get a different experience here in Eco Park, The best time to visit here is from 4:00 to 5:00 in the evening.
